Spokespeople

Val Agostino, Co-Founder and CEO at Monarch

Val Agostino is the Co-founder and CEO of Monarch, where he leads the company’s strategic direction and growth.

Val has shown a consistent instinct for products that change daily behavior at scale. Prior to founding Monarch, Val was an early product leader at Mint, where he helped grow the company from launch to 2 million users before its $170 million acquisition by Intuit. He later founded WorkLife, a meeting productivity tool, before it was acquired by Cisco, where he went on to lead a product and growth team of 100+ people. He also built Britely, a note-taking plugin, which eventually sold to Groupon.

With Monarch, Val brings those experiences to a problem that touches everyone, helping people feel confident and in control of their financial lives.

Ozzie Osman, Co-Founder and Head of Engineering at Monarch

Ozzie Osman is Co-founder and Head of Engineering at Monarch, where he shapes how product, engineering, and AI come together to give people more clarity around their money.

Ozzie has spent his career building products that help people access better information and collaborate more thoughtfully. He started his career in product development at Google, before co-founding Parlio, a platform created to foster thoughtful conversations around complex issues. Parlio was acquired by Quora, where he went on to lead product engineering, deepening his focus on how technology shapes the way people learn, share, and decide. He was also a lead author at Holloway, a publishing platform built to make expert knowledge more accessible.

Ozzie brings his cross-product experiences to personal finance at Monarch, building tools that make money feel less isolating and more actionable.

Rachel Lawrence, Head of Advice & Planning at Monarch

Rachel Lawrence, CFP® and MSFP, has spent her career bridging the gap between financial expertise and the tools people actually use to manage their money. As Head of Advice & Planning at Monarch, she partners with the product, engineering, and content teams to bring real-world planning expertise into the platform, shaping how financial guidance, AI tools, and consumer behavior come together in ways that are practical and trustworthy.

Rachel brings deep experience from across the personal finance industry, having held senior roles at LearnVest and Ellevest. She also runs her own fee-only RIA, Reverie Wealth, focused on supporting mid-career women and couples seeking financial planning that aligns with their values, and uses Monarch directly with her clients, creating a feedback loop between the product and real-world finance that few in fintech can claim. Her commentary has appeared in CNBC, USA Today, Forbes, and the Wall Street Journal.

Berna Anat, Head of Creative Education at Monarch

Berna Anat, Monarch’s Head of Creative Education, has dedicated her career to making financial education more accessible, more engaging, and more honest about who it has historically left out. After teaching herself how to pay off more than $50,000 in debt, she turned that hard-won experience into a platform that makes personal finance feel less intimidating and easier to navigate.

Berna is the creator of Berna Explains It All, a Youtube show dedicated to engaging audiences long underserved by traditional personal finance content, produced by Monarch. She is the author of Money Out Loud: All the Financial Stuff No One Taught Us, a Bookshop.org bestseller with starred reviews from Kirkus and Booklist. She is also co-founder of New Dimes, a network for first-generation breadwinners making progressive change. Her work has been recognized by the New York Times and Forbes.
